Ke-hai [presence]

〘 noun 〙 (A reading inspired by the ateji kehai (pretending to be kehai), a historical kana version of "kewai") 1. The state of something that is vaguely grasped by the senses. A gesture. A state. → kewai. ※Light and Darkness (1916) by Natsume Soseki, p. 169 "It showed a kehai (pretending) that a blue glow was leaking out from a broken hole." 2. The state of the market economy or prices. Also, a price that is roughly estimated even though no actual transaction has been made. An indicative price. Kihai.

〘名〙 (「けわい」の歴史的仮名づかい「けはひ」の当て字「気配」にひかれたよみ)① 漠然と感覚によってとらえられる物事の様子。そぶり。ようす。→けわい。※明暗(1916)〈夏目漱石〉一六九「破れた穴から青い輝きを洩らしさうな気配(ケハイ)を示した」② 市場の景気や相場の状態。また、実際の取引はできてないが、大体この見当だろうという値段。気配値。きはい。

き‐くばり【気配】

〘名〙 いろいろと気をつけて注意していること。こころづかい。気苦労。※俳諧・小町踊(1665)春「気くはりはこころの華の枝葉かな〈久之〉」※姉と弟(1892)〈嵯峨之屋御室〉三「小児(こども)が往ったなら夫人の気配(キクバリ)が多くなる故」
