① Boulder : Generally a worn, rounded fragment measuring 256 mm or more [Wentworth: 1922, Pettijohn: 1949]. ② Shingle : A large piece of pebble [edited by Watanabe: 1935]. However, it is larger than gravel and refers to a small stone or gravel, and it is said to correspond to a pebble in the United States [Random House: 1994]. This word is more widely used in the UK than in the US [Robert, et al .: 1983]. It does not seem to be used much in academic circles. Source: Asakura Publishing Dictionary of Petrology Information |
