...In the strict sense, it is a mineral with the chemical composition Ca 2 (Al,Fe 3+ ) 3 Si 3 O 12 (OH) that belongs to the epidote group along with zoisite, pionite, and allanite . Minerals with low Fe 3+ and close to Ca 2 Al 3 Si 3 O 12 (OH) are sometimes called clinozoisite, and minerals with high Fe 3+ and close to Ca 2 Al 2 Fe 3+ Si 3 O 12 (OH) are sometimes called pistacite.
