Jan Malík (1904-80) of the former Czechoslovakia, who participated in the founding of the organization and served as secretary general from 1933 to 1972, made a great contribution. Japan Unima was organized in 1967 (Showa 42), and Kawajiri Taiji (1914-94) was the first chairman. Since 2005 (Heisei 17), Sugita Nobuhiro has served as the fourth chairman.
