…date of birth and death unknown. Originally Placidus was an officer in the army of Emperor Trajan. According to legend, he was converted after seeing a shining image of the crucified Christ among the antlers of a deer he had hunted, was baptized, and took the name Eustachius. [From Benedict of Nursia]…He is also depicted as a naked young man, due to the legend that he rolled naked among thorns to quench his carnal desires.
