Okudzhava (English spelling) Bulat Shalvovich Okudzhava

Russian poet. Born in Moscow. After serving as a student soldier in World War II and being wounded and discharged, he studied at Tbilisi University and taught at a teaching school before making his debut in the literary world in 1956 with his collection of poems, Lyric Poems. He continued to work in a wide variety of genres, including poetry and novels. He excelled in lyric poems that lyrically sang about themes of war and the sadness and poetic sentiments of everyday life, and was also a pioneer among modern poets who recited his own poems while playing the guitar. His representative collections of poems include The Island (1959), The Merry Drummer (1964), and Broad-Hearted March (1967). After writing the novel Take Care, Boy Soldier (1961), which described his wartime experiences, he enthusiastically tackled historical novels, publishing works such as Poor Abrasimov (1969) and The Journey of a Dilettante (1979). In 1994, she was the third recipient of the Russian Booker Prize, the most prestigious literary award in Russia since the collapse of the Soviet Union (for "Closed Theatre"). In 1989 (Heisei 1), she visited Japan for the first time and released the record "Bulat Okudzhava/The Blue Balloon."
