An open university for adults that opened in the UK in 1971. By using television and radio broadcasts at home, combining study materials sent by post and schooling, and completing a set course, students can obtain a degree at the same level as at a regular university. It is called the Open University because university education is widely open to adults, and there are no particular entrance qualifications other than an age limit of 21 years or older. There are approximately 65,000 students (1981). There is also a graduate school. [Mizuno Kunitoshi] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
