Au Pair

Japanese: オーペア
Au Pair
Foreign students who help with household chores in Britain receive free lodging and meals in exchange. They became popular among middle-class families who could no longer afford to hire maids after World War II. The system originally came from a system in which young women were exchanged on equal terms and stayed in the homes of other families to learn the language and customs of the other country.
