Ophthalmometer

A device for measuring the radius of curvature of the corneal surface, the axial angle of astigmatism, and the degree of astigmatism. Because the eyeball moves involuntarily, it is difficult to directly read the size of the reflected image formed on the corneal surface of the scale plate and perform the above measurements. For this reason, H. Helmholtz first developed a method using a separated image in 1853. Various devices have been made using different methods of creating a separated image, and the figure shows one example. A light source, a reflector, and a condenser lens (focusing lens) illuminate an index with four symbols such as + and - on the outside of a circle.

角膜表面の曲率半径，乱視の軸角度，乱視度などを測定する装置。眼球は不随意にも運動するので，目盛板の角膜表面で作られる反射像の大きさを直接読み取り，上記測定を行うことは困難である。このためH.ヘルムホルツは1853年，分離像を用いる方法を初めて開発した。分離像の作り方が異なる各種の装置が作られているが，図はその一つの例である。光源，反射鏡，コンデンサーレンズ(集光レンズ)によって，円の外側に＋，－などの四つの記号がついた指標を照明する。
