(6) Progressive rock Progressive rock is typified by a series of British groups such as Pink Floyd and King Crimson, whose activities peaked around 1970. They attempted to improve the musical quality of rock by incorporating modern music and jazz sounds and using a variety of arrangements with heavy sounds. These various attempts were made until the early 1970s, but when trial and error had run out, rock once again went into a slump, partly due to the recession of the record industry as a whole, and the latter half of the 1970s was dominated by a commercial line called the disco boom.
