Equipment used for irrigation and drainage. There are simple water-lifting equipment and pumps. Simple water-lifting equipment includes buckets and cylinder wheels that use pumping, treadmills and keel wheels that use push-up, and spiral water-lifters that use reverse lifting. Pumps are machines that move fluids by overcoming gravity and other resistance forces, and agricultural pumps come in various types, including centrifugal, axial, and diagonal. Centrifugal pumps use a 6-8-blade impeller that rotates inside a water-filled casing to push water, with a maximum head of about 6m. Axial pumps are low-head pumps that use a propeller-shaped impeller in a straight pipe to send water from one side of the pipe to the other, and diagonal flow pumps combine the advantages of the previous two and are used in large-scale pumping stations with a head of 3-15m.

灌漑および排水に用いる機具。簡易揚水機具とポンプとがある。簡易揚水機具には汲上げによるつるべ，筒車など，押上げによる踏車，竜骨車など，逆上げによる螺旋状揚水機などがある。ポンプは流体を重力その他の抵抗力を克服して流動的に移送する機械で，農用ポンプには渦巻，軸流，斜流などの型がある。渦巻は充水したケーシング内で6～8枚の羽根の羽根車を回転させて水を押し，最大揚程約 6m，軸流は直管の中でプロペラ型の羽根車を回転させ管の一方から他方へ水を送る低揚程ポンプ，斜流は前の2つの長所を折衷したもので，揚程3～15mの大規模揚水機場に用いる。
