...An aircraft that obtains lift through freely rotating (i.e., not power-driven) rotors. It is sometimes called a gyroplane, but gyroplane is originally a trademark of autogyro. An autogyro has freely rotating rotors located at the top near the center of gravity of the aircraft. When the rotors are first turned slightly by hand, the rotors tilt slightly backward as the aircraft moves forward, allowing air to flow in from below, so the aircraft continues to rotate naturally (autorotation). *Some of the terminology used to refer to "gyro plane" is listed below.
