Ono Yoshifuru - Ono Yoshifuru

A warrior in the mid-Heian period. He was also famous as a poet. He was the grandson of Councillor Takamura and the son of Dazai no Daini Kuzuo. He was the older brother of the famous calligrapher Michikaze. His mother was a daughter of the O clan. He served as a capital official, including Uemon no Gonnosuke, Chugu no Daishin, and Ukon'e Shosho. In 940 (Tenkei 3), during the Fujiwara no Sumitomo Rebellion (Tenkei Rebellion) that took place in the west, he became a pursuit envoy for both Sanyo and Nankai roads, and headed to Iyo Province (Ehime Prefecture), where he defeated and captured Sumitomo, who was plundering in the Dazaifu area, at Hakata Port in Chikuzen Province (Fukuoka Prefecture). Due to his achievements, he was promoted to the position of Yamashiro no Kami, Dazai Daini, and then to the position of councilor, and was subsequently awarded the rank of Jusanmi. He died on February 14, 5th year of the Kōhō era. His poems are included in the Gosenshu and Yamato Monogatari.

平安中期の武人。歌人としても著名。参議篁(たかむら)の孫で、大宰大弐(だざいのだいに)葛絃(くずお)の子。書家で有名な道風(とうふう)の兄。母は王氏の女(むすめ)。右衛門権佐(うえもんのごんのすけ)、中宮大進(だいしん)、右近衛(うこんえ)少将など京官を歴任する。940年（天慶3）西国を舞台に起こった藤原純友(すみとも)の乱（天慶(てんぎょう)の乱）で山陽、南海両道の追捕使(ついぶし)となり、伊予国（愛媛県）に向かい、ついで大宰府管内で略奪を働いていた純友を筑前(ちくぜん)国（福岡県）博多津(はかたのつ)に破り捕らえた。その功によって山城守(やましろのかみ)、大宰大弐などを経て参議に進み、ついで従三位(じゅさんみ)に叙せられた。康保(こうほう)5年2月14日卒す。『後撰(ごせん)集』『大和(やまと)物語』などに好古の歌がとられている。
