Years of birth: unknown. A poet of the mid-Edo period. Family name: Hasegawa. Commonly known as Kenmasu. He is said to have been a doctor by profession, but lost his sight in middle age and turned to acupuncture and abdominal massage to gain fame, but the truth of this is unknown. He is said to have been the first disciple of Kamo no Mabuchi, who came to Edo, but this is also unclear. In short, there are few documents that can tell us about Kodo's character other than the Ono Kodo Kashu, included in the second volume of Kenmon Iko, edited by Shimizu Hamaomi, so his true character is unknown. It is certain that he lived until the An'ei period (1772-81), and an exchange of poems between him and Kato Edanao has been pointed out.
