Karpaty (mountain range) (English spelling)

Japanese: カルパチ[山脈]（英語表記）Karpaty

A mountain range that is part of the Alpine-Himalayan orogenic belt and stretches from Bratislava in Slovakia to the Nišava-Timok valley in Yugoslavia. In Romanian, it is called Carpați. In Japan, it is also called the Carpathian Mountains. It is 1,300 km long and forms an arc. The origin of the mountain range dates back to the Cretaceous mountain building in the Mesozoic era. First, a land of crystalline rock appeared, but this land soon sank below sea level. 90 million years ago, at the end of the Cretaceous period, another mountain building occurred, and combined with a regression phenomenon, the Proto-Carpathians were formed.

アルプス･ヒマラヤ造山帯の一環をなし，スロバキアのブラティスラバから，ユーゴスラビアのニシャバ･ティモーク渓谷まで続く山脈。ルーマニア語ではCarpați.日本ではカルパティア山脈とも呼ぶ。全長1300kmに及び，弧状をなす。山脈の起源は古く中生代白亜紀の造山運動までさかのぼる。まず，結晶岩質の陸地が現れたが，この陸地は，まもなく海面下に没した。9000万年前，白亜紀末期に，再び造山運動がおこり，海退現象とも重なって，原カルパチが形成された。
