Eyewash - Sengan

Japanese:
Eyewash - Sengan

This refers to a procedure to wash the eyelids and conjunctival sac. Physiological saline solution, borax, etc. are used for the wash. The purpose is to wash away eye discharge and harmful substances. Eyewashing is essential as an emergency measure, especially for harmful substances. In the past, eyewashing was widely performed for external eye diseases, with the aim of removing eye discharge and making it easier for medication to reach the mucous membrane surface. However, for example, in the case of viral conjunctivitis, there are no effective medications, and eyewashing increases the chance of contamination and can promote hospital-acquired infections, so eyewashing as an ophthalmic procedure is no longer performed very often.
