The name of a town located almost in the center of Chuo Ward, Tokyo. During the Kan'ei era (1624-1644), a moat was excavated to allow boat transport to the Sumida River, and it is said that the name comes from the fact that the moat was eight cho (8 cho) long. In the "Kan'ei Map," there is a temple and a samurai residence, and during the Genroku era (1688-1704), the town magistrate's office provided the deputy and police officers with group residences, and they were commonly called the "master of Hatchobori" and were revered by townspeople. However, in reality, they rented out about half of the land to townspeople (doctors, Confucian scholars, etc.) to make up for their low wages. Currently, it is a commercial area with many small and medium-sized buildings. Hatchobori Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line is located here.
