Kabuki actor. The name Baiko was the pen name of the successive Onoe Kikugorou, and the third Kikugorou was the first to use it as a stage name. The fourth Kikugorou also used it as his stage name. There are currently seven generations. His stage name is Otowaya. [Hideo Furuido] VI(1870-1934). His real name was Terashima Einosuke. He was the adopted son of Kikugorou V. He was the brother-in-law of Kikugorou VI. He was trained by his foster father and played opposite him, and in 1903 (Meiji 36) he took on the name. In 1918 he became the head of the arts committee (zagashira) at the newly built and opened Imperial Theater. He was a tall and slender man who excelled in plays such as "Tsuchigumo," "Yotsuya Kaidan," and "Kasane," and he co-starred with Ichimura Uzaemon XV in "Genjidana" and "Nao Samurai," which were hailed as a great pairing. He also contributed greatly to the revival of the Nanboku-mono style by Ichikawa Sadanji II. He left behind "Shitakaze under the Plum Blossoms" (1930), a talk about the art of female actors. [Hideo Furuido] 7th(1915-95). His real name was Terashima Seizo. He was adopted by the 6th Kikugoro. He took his stage name in 1947 (Showa 22). After the death of his adoptive father, he formed the Kikugoro Theatre Company, and while he held the position of a leading female actor, he also demonstrated his talent in leading roles inherited from his adoptive father, such as Yoshitsune in "Kanjincho" and Enya Hangan in "Chushingura." He was designated a holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property in 1968, a member of the Japan Art Academy in 1976, and a Person of Cultural Merit in 1994 (Heisei 6).
