Ochi [town] - home
A former town in Higashi Matsuura County in the mid-west of Saga Prefecture. The Karatsu Line and Chikuhi Line run through the town, and the main settlement developed in the valley of the Matsuura River. Since 1896, the town has developed with the opening of the Ochi Coal Mine in the Karatsu Coalfield, and once produced 400,000 tons per year, but is now closed. In January 2005, it was incorporated into Karatsu City along with Hamatama Town, Iki Town, Hizen Town, Chinzei Town, Yobuko Town, and Kitahata Village in Higashi Matsuura County. 65.08 km2 . 9,148 people (2003).
