A former town in Nishiibaraki County, central Ibaraki Prefecture. The Joban Line and Joban Expressway pass through the town. The town produces rice, fruit trees, and vegetables, and also raises livestock. It is one of the prefecture's leading chestnut producers. The strange Akusou Festival is held at Atago Shrine on Mt.
