Power Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Development Corporation

Japanese: 動力炉･核燃料開発事業団 - どうりょくろかくねんりょうかいはつじぎょうだん

A special corporation established in October 1967 under the Power Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Development Corporation Act to establish new power reactors and nuclear fuel cycles. Abbreviated as Doen. In developing new reactors, the corporation is independently developing new conversion reactors and fast breeder reactors that can utilize uranium more effectively. For the former, it is currently operating a prototype reactor called Fugen with an electrical output of 165,000 kW, and for the latter, it has built a prototype reactor called Monju with an electrical output of 280,000 kW after the experimental reactor Joyo. It also has a large research facility in Oarai Town, Ibaraki Prefecture.

新型動力炉および核燃料サイクルの確立のために，〈動力炉･核燃料開発事業団法〉に基づき1967年10月に設立された特殊法人。動燃と略称。新型炉開発では，ウランの有効利用を図れる新型転換炉と高速増殖炉の自主開発を進めており，前者では電気出力16.5万kWの原型炉〈ふげん〉を運転中で，後者については実験炉〈常陽〉を経て電気出力28万kWの原型炉〈もんじゅ〉を建設した。また，大型研究施設を茨城県大洗町に有す。
