[1] 〘名〙 (「お」は接頭語) 野。野原。おぬ。※古事記（712）中・歌謡「さねさし相摸の袁怒(ヲノ)に燃ゆる火の火中に立ちて問ひし君はも」[2][一] 京都市山科区南端の地名。中世には小野郷。真言宗善通寺派（もと小野派本山）随心院（小野門跡）、醍醐天皇妃藤原胤子の小野陵がある。※拾遺（1005‐07頃か）雑秋・一一四四「み山木を朝な夕なにこりつめて寒さをこふるをのの炭焼〈曾禰好忠〉」[二] 京都市左京区八瀬、大原一帯の古名。小野朝臣当岑が居住し、惟喬(これたか)親王が閉居した所。※伊勢物語（１０Ｃ前）八三「睦月にをがみ奉らむとて、小野にまうでたるに、比叡の山の麓なれば、雪いと高し」[三] 滋賀県彦根市の地名。中世の鎌倉街道の宿駅で、上代には鳥籠(とこ)駅があった。小野小町の出生地と伝えられる。※義経記（室町中か）二「をのの摺針(すりばり)打ち過ぎて、番場、醒井(さめがい)過ぎければ」[四] 兵庫県中南部、加古川中流域の地名。小野氏一万石の旧城下町。特産品に鎌、はさみ、そろばんなどがある。昭和二九年（一九五四）市制。
