...The descendants of Moro and Ujiharu inherited the position of shugo and ruled the country from Yagiyakata, located in the center of Awaji Island, roughly halfway between Sumoto and Fukura. The main local clans who rose to prominence under the vassals of this shugo Hosokawa clan were the Hirota, Suga, and Funakoshi clans, but it was the Awaji Navy that was given the important task of securing the sea routes of Osaka Bay and the Seto Inland Sea.
