Abbreviation for fractional distillation. A method of separating liquid mixtures with small differences in boiling point by repeating distillation many times. During distillation, the gas phase is richer in low-boiling components than the liquid phase, so if the vapor produced is constantly removed, the high-boiling components gradually become concentrated in the liquid phase. In general, fractions of each temperature range are separated, and each fraction is further distilled to separate each component. When this is done on a large scale in the oil refining industry, a rectification column is used. → Rectification → Related topics Fractional crystallization Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
