Onishi [town] - Onishi

Japanese: 鬼石[町] - おにし

This is an old town in Tano County, occupying the mountainous area on the north bank of the Kanna River in southern Gunma Prefecture. The central town along the river is a typical valley-mouth settlement, and developed as a market town. The town is known for producing Sanba stone, which is used for garden stones, and there are many garden stone dealers. There is Sanba stone gorge (a scenic spot), the Sanba River cherry blossoms (a natural monument), Yashio Onsen, and Shimokubo Dam. It was incorporated into Fujioka City in January 2006. 52.45 ^km2 . 7,268 people (2003).
