An Italian Franciscan friar. Odoricus is the English pronunciation, but the correct name is Odorico da Pordenone. He aimed to spread Christianity in the East, and entered China via Persia, India, and Southeast Asia. In 1325, he stayed in Dadu (Beijing) of the Yuan Dynasty for three years, and returned to Japan via Tibet. His dictated book, "Journey to the East," was widely read and loved.
