Martin, J. (dance) (English spelling) Martin J

...Modern dance was founded by I. Duncan in the 1920s in Germany and later developed in the United States. The term "modern dance" was coined in 1933 by American critic John Martin, who defined Duncan's free dance (also called new dance), the Neue Tanz (later called Moderne Tanz) of Germany's M. Wigman and others, and the dance of M. Graham and others in the United States. However, with subsequent developments, it is now often called "contemporary dance" in the West and "modern dance" in Japan.
