A seabird of the order Pelecaniformes and family Pelecanidae. It breeds on islands in the warm waters of the Pacific and Indian Oceans. It is 39 centimeters long. There are two types, one with a dark brown body and one with a white underside, but in Japan, the latter breeds on the Ogasawara Islands.
