...It was danced mainly in vaudeville, revues, and musicals, and was very popular in the 1920s and 1930s. The most famous dances were performed by the black Bill Robinson (1878-1949) and Fred Astaire, and Astaire was introduced to Japan in many classic films in which he worked with Ginger Rogers (1911-1995). The most famous musical film featuring Astaire's dance numbers is Mr. and Mrs. Castle (1939).
