...It covers a long period from prehistoric times to the 2nd century when the New Testament was completed, but the focus is on the period from the 2nd millennium BC onwards, when the Old Testament was confirmed to be consistent with historical facts, that is, from the Middle Bronze Age to the Middle Roman period. The first systematic investigation of the correspondence between the Bible and real place names in Palestine was carried out in 1838 by American theologian E. Robinson (1794-1863). Later, in 1890, British archaeologist Petrie conducted an investigation of Tell el-Hesi, which became the first scientific excavation.
