A type of hunting rifle bullet, it is a special bullet with a lead core exposed at the tip or a vertical cut in the head of the bullet, so that when it hits the prey, the head opens like a mushroom or the lead core scatters, causing more damage than a normal bullet. In the 19th century, the British had it manufactured at an arms factory in Dum Dum, an industrial city north of Calcutta (now Kolkata), in order to suppress the civil war in India. If this bullet is used on the human body for military purposes, the core will be crushed or lead pieces will scatter inside the body, causing larger and more complicated wounds after the bullet is inserted, increasing the mortality rate and slowing recovery. For this reason, it was banned at the Hague Conference in 1907 on the grounds that it is an inhumane weapon, but neither the UK nor the US ratified the ban.
