...A single-celled hair originating from the root epidermis, a type of absorptive hair. Roots may absorb water directly from the surface, but in most cases, they do so through root hairs. Unlike above-ground parts, roots rarely differentiate into appendages, but root hairs are one of the few examples. They adhere closely to soil particles and also play a role in strengthening the support function of the root. Root hair cells usually have thin cell walls and the nucleus is located at the tip.
