He was the great-great-grandson of Emperor Senka and the son of Prince Tajihi. He was the father of Ikemori, Kenshu, Hironari, and others. In 682, he was appointed Dazai of Tsukushi, where he presented a large bell as tribute, and in January of the following year, he presented a three-legged sparrow. When Empress Jito ascended to the throne, he was honored with a celebratory gift, was appointed Minister of the Right, and was given a fief of 500 households. In 696, he was given a walking stick and a palanquin out of pity for his old age. He later rose to the rank of Minister of the Left, Shonii. According to one theory, he was 78 years old. In 713, his wife, Iehara Onna, encouraged her husband to govern the country while he was alive, and after his death, she was rewarded for her faithfulness and was given 50 villages for firmly adhering to the will of her husband.
