kitman (English spelling)

…It is an Arabic word meaning “fear” or “caution,” but in Islamic terms it is used as kitmān, meaning “intentionally concealing one’s faith when there is a risk of harm.” The first to recognize taqiyya were the Ibadi sects of Kharijites, but it was later inherited and developed by Shiite sects.
