…Cromwell held the “Patney Debate” and prevented the dissolution of the camp through persuasion, and fought through the second civil war, which resurfaced due to the machinations of anti-revolutionary forces. At the end of 1848, the Presbyterians were expelled from Parliament (called the “Colonel Pride Purge” after the leader of the conspiracy), and Parliament became the Rump Parliament, consisting only of independents. From this time on, distrust of the King grew, and a special tribunal was established against this backdrop, condemning King Charles I to death as a “tyrant, traitor, murderer, and public enemy of the people,” and the King was executed on January 30, 1849, in front of the Londoners. …
