〘noun〙① A meeting made up of committee members. In particular, in the Diet, a meeting made up of committee members selected from among the members of the Diet to conduct preliminary research and deliberation prior to a vote in the plenary session of both the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors. There are standing committees and special committees. ※Article 24 of the Houses Act (1889) (Meiji 22): "Each chairperson shall report to the House on the progress and results of the committee." ② A deliberative body with decision-making power, formed by members for a specific purpose. ※People Living in the Sea (1926)〈Hayama Yoshiki〉41: "Two committee members will be appointed on this side and one on the other side, and assistance rules will be drawn up by these committees."
