Kukuljeviĉ, I.

...a nationalist movement and ethnic revival movement that took place among the Croats in Yugoslavia in the 1830s and 40s. The name was used because at the time the South Slavs were thought to be descendants of the Illyrians. The background to the rise of commerce and the growth of the intelligentsia during the transition from the feudal to the capitalist era is thought to be the background to the movement's emergence, but the ideas spread by the French Revolution and the Pan-Slavism advocated by Slovaks such as J. Kollár and Šafálik were what prompted the movement.
