...The qualifications for becoming a believer were not necessarily strict, and some, like Xavier, considered anyone who believed in the Apostles' Creed to be a believer. Between 1580 and 1595, the sect sent envoys to the Mughal court three times, with R. Aquaviva and A. Monserrate attempting to educate Akbar and his court nobles. After that, under the protection of Jahangir, the sect continued to evangelize among the Indians, building a church in Lahore, but the Jesuits were eventually banned due to the deterioration of relations between the Mughal Empire and Portugal.
