…Italian painter. The last great Venetian decorative painter, he represents the Rococo culture of 18th century Italy. Born into a wealthy Venetian shipping merchant family, he trained under G. Lazzarini, and in 1717, at the age of 21, he was registered with the painters' guild. In 1719, he married the sister of the painter Guardi. In his early years, he was influenced by S. Ricci and Piazzetta (their fluent and light pictorial forms and bold perspective compositions), and he formed his own style by incorporating Veronese's bright color space. …
