…Winning all four major tournaments in one year is called a Grand Slam. However, no one has ever achieved this to date, and the only players who have done so for many years are Gene Sarazen (1902- ), Ben Hogan, Gary Player (1935- ), and Jack Nicklaus (1940- ). The only player to win three titles in the same year is Ben Hogan in 1953 (he did not compete in the U.S. Open). It was only after the Masters Tournament was established in 1934 that all four major tournaments were held, and the four major tournaments became a topic of consideration in 1960 when Arnold Palmer (1929- ) set the goal of achieving a Grand Slam. …
