Yitzchak Ben Zvi

Leader of the Israeli labor movement and President of Israel (in office 1952-63). His real name was Yitzchak Shimshelevitz Shimshi. Born in Ukraine, he joined the Zionist workers' movement and emigrated to Palestine in 1907. He was active as the Palestinian representative of Poale Zion, and served in the U.S. and British armies during World War I with Ben Gurion and others. After the war, he led the activities of the Labor Party (MAPAI), and after the establishment of the State of Israel, he became a member of the Knesset for the party.

イスラエル労働運動の指導者，イスラエル大統領(在任1952‐63)。本名シムシェレビツ･シムシYitzchak Shimshelevitz Shimshi。ウクライナに生まれ労働者シオニズム運動に参加し，1907年パレスティナへ移住。ポアレ･シオンPoale Zionのパレスティナ代表として活躍し，第1次大戦中はベン･グリオンらとともにアメリカ軍，イギリス軍に従軍。戦後労働党(マパイ)の活動を指導し，イスラエル建国後同党選出の国会議員となる。
