A shrine in Kuwata County, Tanba (present-day Kameoka City, Kyoto Prefecture). Shinomura Manor was originally the property of Taira Shigehira, and after the defeat of the Taira clan, it became the domain of Minamoto no Yoshitsune. At this time, Shinomura Hachiman Shrine was probably established with a request from Iwashimizu-sha Shrine. Yoshitsune donated the manor to Enro, the founder of Hokkesan-ji Temple, and it became the property of the temple throughout the Middle Ages. According to the Nan-Taiheiki, Ashikaga Takauji raised an army to overthrow the shogunate at the head of this Hachiman shrine in April 1333 (Genko 3), and had the right-hand writer Hikita Myogen write a petition for the shrine. However, the handwriting of Takauji currently held by the shrine is clearly different from that of Hikita Myogen, and the signature is weak, raising doubts as to whether it was written at that time.
