Odani family

Oda Nobunaga's younger sister. Her name was Ichi. She was also called "Oichi no Kata." She was originally married to Azai Nagamasa, the lord of Odani Castle in Omi Province, and had three daughters, but after the fall of the Azai clan, she returned to the Oda clan with her daughters, and later remarried to Shibata Katsuie. On April 24, 1583, she was attacked by Hashiba (Toyotomi) Hideyoshi, and committed suicide with Katsuie at Kitanosho in Echizen. Her three daughters escaped, and later her eldest daughter became Hideyoshi's concubine Yodo-dono, her second daughter became Kyogoku Takatsugu's wife Joko-in, and her third daughter became Tokugawa Hidetada's wife Sugen-in. 織田信長の妹。名は市。〈お市の方〉とも呼ぶ。はじめ近江小谷城主浅井長政に嫁し3女をもうけるが，浅井氏滅亡後娘たちとともに織田氏のもとに帰り，のち柴田勝家に再嫁する。1583年4月24日，羽柴(豊臣)秀吉に攻められ，越前北ノ庄にて勝家とともに自害した。3女は逃れて，のちに長女は秀吉の側室淀君，次女は京極高次室常高院，三女は徳川秀忠室崇源院となる。【久留島典子】
