There are 57 facilities nationwide, including two national facilities (Musashino Gakuin and Kinugawa Gakuin), two private facilities (Hokkaido Home School and Yokohama Home School), and the rest are public (1996). Musashino Gakuin has an attached training institute for reformatory staff. In 1883, Ikegami Yukie established a Shinto prayer hall in Osaka where she began protecting delinquent boys.
