Pick-up - Wide

Japanese:
Pick-up - Wide
One of the names of the musical components of Heikyoku. It tells the heroic story of a battle scene, and does not use a particularly high range like sanjuu (three-note), but uses a syllabic melody with melisma (vocal style in which one note is assigned to one syllable) decoration sung with strong breath to build up the atmosphere and form the climax of the piece. The biwa hand in the prelude to this part is also called 'tsukei', and prepares the narration with a crisp double-string technique and strong use of the plectrum.
