Identical twins in which parts of the body are fused together are called conjoined twins, but because a pair of Chinese brothers (the Chan-Eng brothers) who were brought to America from Thailand (Siam) lived an exceptionally long life, they are commonly known as "Siamese twins." The fused parts can be in the head, chest, abdomen, or buttocks, but today many of these twins survive after undergoing surgery to separate the fused parts immediately after birth.
