…He was born in Chembaland near Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala, to a family of the Eelawa caste, an untouchable people. In 1884, he separated from his wife and became a monk. In 1888, at the age of 34, he experienced a major turning point, realizing that it was meaningless to seek liberation only for himself, and embarked on religious and social relief for the lower classes. In 1903, he founded the Sri Narayana Dharma Promotion Society (SNDP Yogam) in Alvipuram. Based on the philosophy of Advaita monism, he adopted the slogan "One caste, one religion, one God for mankind," and built many temples and monasteries for the lower classes in various places, carried out various reforms, banned alcohol, abolished old customs, and devoted himself to a movement criticizing the caste system. …
