...Three more types were added in the Bronze Age: the Matris Optimae (skull length 17.1-18.9 cm), with a high braincase and low eye sockets; the Intermesius (skull length 16.4 cm), with an even higher braincase and a stronger stop, similar to pointers, setters, and spaniels; and the Rayneri, with a low braincase and low eye sockets, similar to a greyhound. Greyhound-type dogs are known from ancient Egypt, but their phylogenetic relationship with the Rayneri has recently come into doubt, as has the theory linking the Matris Optimae to collies.
