A nobleman in the mid-Kamakura period. Son of Gon Chunagon Fujiwara Mitsuchika, who was executed as the ringleader of the Jokyu War (1221). His mother was the daughter of Councillor Fujiwara Sadatsune. His first name was Mitsutsugu, then Takatsugu, and then Sadatsugu. He was bestowed a peerage in 1214. He served as Tajima no Kami, Mino no Kami, Kurodo, and Benkan, and in 1241 he became Kurodo no Tomo. The following year he became a councillor and ranked as a nobleman. He served the Kujo line of regents, and became a political advisor to Nijo Yoshizane. He also worked as a close aide to Emperor Gosaga, and after the fall of the Kujo family in 1246 he began to serve the retired Emperor Gosaga exclusively. He was appointed Minister of Finance, Sahyoe no Kami, and Kebiishi betto, and in 1248 he became Gon Chunagon. He aspired to become the chief advisor to the retired Emperor Gosaga and the Grand Counselor, but was unable to achieve this due to his family status. He has a diary, called "Yakouki."

鎌倉中期の公卿。承久の乱(1221)の首謀者として誅された権中納言藤原光親の子。母は参議藤原定経の娘。初名光嗣,次いで高嗣,定嗣。建保2(1214)年叙爵。但馬守,美濃守,蔵人,弁官を歴任し,仁治2(1241)年に蔵人頭。翌年参議となって公卿に列する。摂関家九条流に仕え,二条良実の政治顧問となる。また後嵯峨天皇の側近としても活動し,寛元4(1246)年に九条家が没落すると専ら後嵯峨上皇に仕えるようになった。大蔵卿,左兵衛督,検非違使別当に任じて宝治2(1248)年に権中納言。後嵯峨上皇の第一の側近として大納言を望んだが,家格のゆえに果たさなかった。日記があり,『葉黄記』という。
