Chinbun of the Group - Marumaru Chinbun

Japanese: 団々珍聞 - まるまるちんぶん
Chinbun of the Group - Marumaru Chinbun
A satirical magazine first published on March 24, 1877 (Meiji 10). 46x format. Weekly. Published by Dandansha, later known as Chinmonkan. Hiroshima native Nomura Fumio, who had resigned from the Ministry of the Interior, launched the magazine with the aim of criticizing government policies with a satirical spirit, instead of newspapers and magazines which could not speak frankly for fear of being outraged by the press. The main content was editorials such as tea theory, miscellaneous news, rhapsodies, kyoku, kyoga, or satirical cartoons, with an emphasis on readers' submissions. Since its launch it has gained explosive popularity and has been affectionately known by the nickname "Maruchin". At its peak, the circulation was over 259,000 per year.
